Eric Abu, Board Member

Eric was born and raised in the village of Acha-Tugi and went to GBHS Mbengwi and PCHS Bamenda in Secondary and High School respectively. After graduating High School, I went to the University of Buea where I obtained my first degree and later master’s degree in Comparative Literature and work as a teacher with the lay private education sector for 4 years before leaving to the US. 

Five years after moving to the United States, I enrolled at the University of Minnesota and obtained a master’s degree in Social Work with a concentration in clinical mental health. I am currently working as an Outpatient Clinic Therapist and married with two kids.

During my time as a member of the executive team, we have focused primarily on overt financial accountability, creating a group that is interactive, engaging and supporting members during the different phases of life as we navigate and experience the joys and challenges of the human condition. We have created constitutional clauses to be there with a symbolic financial assistance when a member is bereaved, sick, celebrating a newborn and other social events. 

We have a MECUDA MN outdoor every August. We rent a park, barbecue and socialized. We have established a standard End-of year Christmas party where we get a community hall, bring in a professional DJ, get and distribute gifts to all the kids, share food, drinks and dance with the family and kids. We had other plans to assist the needy out of our group here and back home but we operated on the philosophy that if we can’t provide basic assistance to the registered members within the group, we cannot create a strong motivation and willingness amongst members to assist others.
